LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Saturday organised a number of rallies in various cities of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as a retribution movement against the government.
PAT’s rally in Lahore shall initiate from Nasir Bagh and will head towards the Charring Cross. Mall Road has been blocked by placing containers whereas a stage has also been placed in front of the Punjab Assembly. PAT Chief Tahirul Qadri shall address the participants of the rally via video link. Party members also organised protests in Bhakar and Sargodha. A sit-in was organised at the Gharh Morr in Jhang as the demonstrators blocked the Layyah Road.
Party members belonging to Bahawalpur organised a march from Farid Gate to Chowk Fawarah whereas a rally was also organised in Larkana. PAT workers organised a public gathering in Peshawar as well as the participants moved from Hasht Nagri to Qayyum Stadium. The participants also marched from Qayyum Stadium to the press club.
Earlier, the PAT leader has stated that the movement was a campaign for the public prosecution of the leaders, adding that the problems faced by the country shall not only be resolved by the stepping down of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He said that the leaders shall have no place to hide now, further stating that the movement starting from August 20 till August 30 shall take place in 140 cities of Pakistan.
He stated that the leaders intend to introduce amendment in the criminal code and to transfer the authority of prosecution from the judge to the Station House Officer (SHO). He said that the very own rule of the leaders shall come to an end before they introduce such a change.
He stated that a number of individuals who are part of the government intend to flee from the country, adding that they were unaware that even if they escape from the country Interpol can bring them back. Qadri also showed interior ministry’s letter to the media and claimed that a group in the provincial government were forcibly not letting the verification of identification cards to take place.
